An attachment is a costume part placed on your avatar from a workspace. The workspace holds the model and its patterns. The attachment gives that model a position, rotation, and scale on the avatar so you can check its fit. An attachment point anchors the part to a body region, such as the head, shoulder, forearm, or calf. The part follows that point as you pose the avatar. You can adjust its placement after attaching it.

Attach a workspace to your avatar

1

Select a workspace

Import a model, then select it in the Workspaces Panel.
2

Choose an attachment point

Click Attach. A ghosted preview of the part follows your pointer. Click the attachment point on the avatar where the part belongs.
3

Position and fit the part

Select the attached part in the Costume viewport or Attachment Tree. Use Translate (T), Rotate (R), and Scale (S) to fit it to the avatar.Use the Transform Panel for exact values. Inspect the fit from several angles before moving on to the next part. Enable Fit Checker to see a heatmap of clearance around the avatar.
Start in the avatar’s neutral T-Pose when fitting parts. After positioning them, use posing to check how the costume moves with the body.

Select and manage attachments

The Attachment Tree lists your attached parts under their attachment points. Click a part’s name to select it. Use its Visible checkbox to show or hide it. If you attached a part to the wrong body region, right-click the selected part in the Attachment Tree, choose Move Part, and select another attachment point. Use Delete Part to remove the attachment from the avatar. Deleting an attachment leaves its source workspace available. Deleting the workspace also removes its connected attachments.

Attachment properties

Select an attachment to inspect its Property Grid. Use the Transform Panel for position, rotation, and scale.

Mirror an attached part

Mirroring is useful for paired costume pieces such as shoulder pads, bracers, and greaves. For example, fit a bracer to the left forearm, then enable Mirror to place its reflected copy on the right forearm. Armorsmith uses the opposite attachment point when one is available. For an attachment point without an opposite partner, the reflected copy uses the same attachment point.
1

Select the original attachment

Select the part in the Costume viewport or Attachment Tree.
2

Toggle the mirror

Focus the Costume viewport and press Shift+M. You can also change the attachment’s Mirror property in the Property Grid.Press Shift+M again to turn mirroring off and remove the mirrored copy from the avatar. The original remains attached.
3

Adjust the pair

Move, rotate, or scale the original attachment to update its linked mirror. Selecting the mirrored copy selects the original so you can adjust the pair together.
For different shapes or independent placement on each side, attach separate parts instead of using a linked mirror.

Mirror several selected parts

Shift+M toggles the Mirror setting of each selected attachment. A part with mirroring off turns it on; a part with mirroring on turns it off. A selection with mixed settings keeps that per-part toggle behavior. The shortcut acts on individual attached parts. Select the parts themselves when working with a group.

Undo and redo mirroring

Press Ctrl+Z to undo a Shift+M action. Every affected attachment returns to its previous mirror setting in one step, even when you selected several parts. Press Ctrl+Y to redo that same action. Changing your selection afterward does not change which attachments that undo or redo affects.
Shift+M and the single-step undo/redo behavior are available in builds that include the updated mirror command. Earlier builds use C for the mirror shortcut. M remains the shortcut for Measure.
