# Export a costume or printable figure

> Export avatar and costume meshes to FBX, or build and preview a solid miniature before saving an STL.

Use **File → Export** to take the fitted costume into another application or create a miniature. Save your editable costume first. These exports do not replace the costume project or its pattern work.

## Export the costume to FBX

1. Load a costume and avatar. Review the fitted parts and the pose you want to export.
2. Choose **File → Export → Costume to FBX...**.
3. Choose a name and save the `.fbx` file. Wait for export to finish.
4. Open the FBX in your destination application and check dimensions, orientation, and the exported meshes.

The command exports the avatar and costume pieces as separate meshes. Workspaces without attachments are also exported under **Unattached Pieces**; remove unused workspaces before exporting if you do not want those models included. It is available in the full version. A costume locked for export must be unlocked before exporting. This is a model export, not an editable Armorsmith project or a promise of an animated rig in the destination application.

## Build a printable miniature

1. Load the costume and avatar and choose the desired pose. This procedure requires the full version and an export-unlocked costume.
2. Choose **File → Export → Printable Figure (STL)...**.
3. Set **Figure height (without base)**, between **20 and 300 mm**.
4. Start with **Detail spacing** around **0.4 mm**, then choose **Surface thickness**. Smaller spacing preserves finer features but uses more memory. Thickness expands surfaces in both directions before filling, so grooves and gaps may close; it does not guarantee wall strength.
5. Review **Include hidden fitted costume parts**, which starts enabled. Unused source models are excluded; the complete active avatar body is included.
6. Optionally enable **Add a circular display base** and set **Base thickness**.
7. Click **Build Preview**. Inspect **Printable Figure Preview** by dragging to turn and scrolling to zoom. Check warnings, thin features, and connections between costume pieces and the body.
8. Click **Save STL...** when satisfied. Open the STL in your slicer using **millimetres**, inspect it, and prepare supports and printer settings there.

The builder aims to produce one connected solid mesh. If it cannot, read **Unable to Build Figure**, adjust spacing, thickness, or the costume arrangement, and build again. Finer detail can exceed memory/export limits. A successful preview is not a guarantee that a particular printer or material can reproduce every feature.

This miniature workflow is available in this build. The separate **3D Printing workspace**, mesh splitting, joints, and printer-layout tools are not enabled.

## Share an editable costume

Use [**File → Publish Costume**](/interface/costume-files#publish-one-file-for-sharing) for a single costume bundle. It serves a different purpose from FBX or STL. The mobile/free-viewer scene is not included with this build's feature selection.
